Kicking The Worry Habit

I want to tell you guys today…worry is simply faith in the wrong source.

I’m the worst with worry a lot of the time. I think we as humans struggle with this quite a bit. Constantly tossing back in forth the “what if’s” and “could be’s” to determine what the worst possible scenario and outcome could be over that circumstance we are facing in our lives.

Did you know that the Bible says “fear not” 365 times? Wow! In other words, God must have known that it would be so easy for us to slip into what I like to call “the worry habit”. This is why He brought up so many times throughout his word for us NOT fear.

Sometimes when we are facing a hard circumstance in our lives, we have to be purposeful to cast down wrong thought patterns that do not line up with what the Word of God says about our situation, and we have to learn to take things day by day. Check out the following verse:

““Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. …”-Matthew 6:25-34

In other words…we were never meant to carry tomorrow’s burden’s today. When we find ourselves creeping into a place of fear or worry over our circumstances, we have to be willing to throw these fears at the feat of our father. And once we surrender these things to him….we need to let him KEEP them. Often we try to take back in a place of worry what we have already surrendered into His hands, and this defeats the purpose. My motto is this: Do what you can do and submit it to God in a place of prayer…and then…relax and let God do His thing! He cares about your needs and is faithful to take care of you.

“Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” -Matthew 10:31
