Are You On Offense Or Defense?

Ephesians 6:10-18 talks about the importance as a Christian of putting on the armor of God. It describes several different parts of your armor:

  1. Belt of truth buckled around your waist
  2. The breastplate of righteousness
  3. Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace
  4. Shield of faith to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one
  5. Helmet of salvation
  6. The sword of the spirit-which is the Word of God

I want you to take a close look at each of these pieces of armor. Notice that five out of the six pieces are more “defensive” in nature: The Belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted, shield of faith, and helmet of salvation. But one piece of the armor of God is more offensive in nature: The sword of the spirit.

I want you to imagine that you are in a sports game and you only played defense the entire game. You would probably get slaughtered by the other team! The offensive stance is usually where you take ground.

The same goes with our spiritual life. If we want to “take ground” towards the promises that God has over our life, we have to learn how to operate in an offensive stance by using the Word of God as a weapon to push back the enemy camp.

When we speak the word of God over our circumstances, that word acts like a sword and pierces through the darkness. Angels hearken to the word of God, so when we speak the word Angels go on the move to intervene in our lives!

What areas are you needing breakthrough in your life today? Speak the word over your situation! It’s time to start taking back territory from the enemy camp rather than just defending ourselves from being pelted all of the time. Let’s do this!
